Lyons woman wins pie contest

Nancy McIntyre of 2144 Maple Street Road, Lyons, won first place at the 8th Annual Wayne County Fair Pie Contest.

McIntyre competed with 51 other contestants for the title of Wayne County's Best Pie Baker and the $50 first prize. The winning pie was a Peach Praline Pie that scored 49 points out of a possible 50.

Second place went to Phyllis Bebernitz of 5776 Walworth Road, Ontario. Phyllis made an apple pie. Third place went to Julie Smith of 451 W. Main Street, Palmyra with her apple plum pie.

Rita Prideaux of 660 Boston Road in Ontario took 4th place honors with her concord grape pie.

Fifth place went to Cheryl Wygal of 5525 Walworth Road, Ontario with her strawberry rhubarb pie.

Joan Dobson, of 2829 W. Lake Road, Williamson took 6th place honors with her Nutty But Nice pie.

Motts North America of Williamson sponsored the 8th Annual Wayne County Fair Pie Contest on August 12. Immediately following the competition, all the pies were auctioned off by Van's Auction Service of Marion. The auction raised over $500, which will go towards fairground renovations.
