Sailing weekend for women

Silver Waters Sailing is offering a learn to sail/cruise weekend getaway for women August 22-24, Sodus Bay.

The overnight cruise aboard a 32-foot sloop is designed for beginning sailors and will introduce them to both sailing and self-sufficient travel on Lake Ontario.

"We'll meet Friday night at the dock and spend the night aboard, then head out Saturday morning for a harbor along the south shore," says instructor Susan Peterson. Each person will learn and practice sailing and seamanship skills at her own pace. The cost for two nights aboard, meals and instruction is $195.

"The weekend is modeled after several successful East Coast classes for women only," says Peterson. This is the only live-aboard weekend class of 1997 at Silver Waters which also offers sailing lessons on Sodus Bay. Instructor Susan Peterson holds a Coast Guard license to 25 ton, has cruised Lake Ontario and Coastal waters for 20 years and, in 1996, authored a book on traveling the lake (Ariel's World).
