Erie Canal Center names officers At the annual meeting of the Erie Canal Cultural Center (ECCC) on November 15, the following officers of the Board of Trustees were elected: Joseph Marinelli, President; Peg Churchill, Vice President; Martha Dodson, Secretary and Tim Morrell, Treasurer. New At-Large Members are Phil Dodd, Palmyra; John Joyce, Sodus Point; Jim Coulombe, Newark and RJ Rapoza, Geneva. Board members reviewed the progress of ECCC, an evolving center for cultural activities that originate in Wayne, Ontario, Seneca and Yates Counties, and thanked members whose commitment to the project has remained constant throughout the early, most difficult stages of establishing the viability of the Center. The board passed a resolution honoring John Worden, one of the five original incorporators of the organization and its first president. Worden, a former executive director of the Wayne County Council for the Arts, has moved to California. The Center's goals for 1998 include increasing membership and outreach in Ontario, Seneca and Yates Counties; expanding and refining long term plans; renting small office space as start-up locations for new, arts-related groups or businesses; hiring a part-time director; drawing up building use plans with groups planning to occupy the building and moving groups in. Literacy Volunteers currently occupy space in the Center's building located in Lyons on the Erie Canal. The Lyons Public Library, Wayne County Council for the Arts and Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES all have plans to utilize space. With the exception of the at-large members, the 17-member Board of Trustees is made up of a designated number of representatives of each of the six founding partnership organizations: Wayne County Council for the Arts - David Chapin, Kevin Schoonover, Dorita Weaver and Linda MacLennan; Wayne County - Peg Churchill; Lyons Public Library - Theresa Streb, Kirk Baker, Marty Dodson, Jack Bailey; Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES/School Districts - Joseph Marinelli and Timothy Morell; Town of Lyons, Jim Brady; Village of Lyons, Walter Kemp, Jr. Anyone interested in membership or exploring space availability may call Marty Dodson at 946-6413.
