Wendy's opens for business
The restaurant is the first and only in Wayne County. It is part of the franchise, Wendy's Restaurants of Rochester, Inc., which is owned by Richard C. Fox and his wife, Jodie. They also own and operate 17 other Wendy's locations in Monroe, Genesee and Ontario Counties. Opening ceremonies took place at a private VIP Preview Opening and ceremony Wednesday evening. Dick Fox gave Town Supervisor Tom Healy and Mayor Fred Pirelli each a "Key to the World of Wendy's." Fox presented the $100 Grand Opening Ribbon to Steve Goebert, President of the Kiwanis Club of Newark. This donation will kick off a fundraising program for the organization. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Newark are selling Wendy's coupon booklets to help raise money for a number of youth projects in Newark and Wayne County. These presentations reflect several of the many ways that Wendy's has been supporting the community and will continue to do so. Founded by R. David Thomas in 1969, Wendy's has grown from one restaurant in Columbus,
Ohio to Store hours for the Newark Wendy's are 10:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. every day. Even on Thanksgiving Day, workers continued to ready the new restaurant for its opening day. This photo of the Wendy's sign being lifted atop the building was taken by Patty Owen. Copyright © 1997 |
