Happenings Candlelight Christmas Eve Services at the First Reformed Church (Union Street) will be at 10 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey East are the parents of a daughter, Karen Michelle, born on November 21. She weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. at birth and was welcomed home by her big sister, Emily. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Furnum of Cheshire and Gerald and Marian East of Marion, who now have six grandchildren, all girls! Happy birthday to Florence Johnson on December 23, from friends in Marion. Remember: Marion Community Band will be performing at the First Reformed Church on Sunday, December 21 at 4 p.m. Happy birthday to Maude Finch on December 7. This year's Marion High School Book Fair was, once again, a success. With the help of the National Honor Society, Mrs. D. Thompson, Mrs. Maier, Mrs. Shafer and all of the patrons who purchased books, $300 in new books have been added for students reading pleasure. Members of the Marion Junior and Senior High School Bands will be participating in a "Band Bowl-A-Thon" on Monday, January 19, 1998. Students will be seeking sponsors for this annual fund raising event beginning on January 5. Proceeds from the Bowl-A-Thon will be used to support trips planned for both bands this coming spring. Ina Benton had a family Christmas with her five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren on December 13. The Junior Choir, under the direction of Cindy Welch, presented the Ministry of Music on December 14 at the morning worship service at the Second Reformed Church. During the same morning service, Elyse and Erin Bushart presented the musical contribution during the morning's offertory. December 25, 1947: The Christmas decorations for the front window at the Marion Central School were made possible by action of the Board of Education. Mrs. Mary Freeman, former teacher of art in Marion, was engaged to draw the patterns and to supervise the student work. "To be upset over what you don't have...is to waste what you do have." Christmas Eve Services at the United Church will be held at 6 p.m. The Afternoon Circle at the United Church was held on December 16 at the home of Bunny Sewert. Clothing is needed immediately! Girls sizes 5-6, 8-10 and 14, and women's size 14. Call me if you can help. Happy birthday to Betty Brandt on December 16. Phyllis Bliek, Katie Wilder and Heather Milliman provided the special music during the worship service at the First Reformed Church on December 14. Sports: The Marion Wrestling team won their first dual meet December 9 at Red Jacket. The score was 35-27. Winning for Marion were Jamie Pentland, Ted Brown, Jake Miles, Andy Ocque and Joe Alampi. Winning by pin were Chad Taylor and Dave Schneider. The boys JV basketball team defeated Red Creek 57-34.
