Basketball team captures FL title The Newark Reds basketball team captured the Finger Lakes East title on February 13 by defeating the Waterloo Indians 68-51 in Newark.
The Reds (16-4 overall), outscored the Indians 34-25 in the second half for the win. Josh Herman scored 15 points for Newark along with eight rebounds. Luke Peters added 14 and Josh J inks chipped in with ten points. Rich Hill had a great game for the Reds, scoring nine off the bench. The League title for the Reds was their 16th in the last 26 years, and their second in a row. The Reds were honored as the number one seed in Class BB on February 14. Newark heads into the Sectionals with great team balance. Peters leads the Reds in scoring with a 13.1 point per game average followed by Herman's 11.4 and Tanner Webb's 10.3 ppg. Newark scored an average of 63.2 points per game, while allowing just 57.2. Herman led the Reds in rebounding with an average of 6.9 per game. Newark plays Aquinas at home on Feb. 21.
