Following the December 21 fire at the Lancaster Bowling Center in
Lyons, Newark volunteers faced a truck and ladder spattered with melted roof tar.

Newark volunteers are pictured here removing the tar with steam
and tar remover. About 13 firefighters and nine Wayne County Jail inmates worked at the
truck, as its 100-foot ladder was stretched open and guided out the front door of the
firehouse.
You see here a panoramic photo of Newark Fire Department Captain
Doug Velte at work, and gathered with the volunteers as a group: Scott Stell, Bernie
Henson, Kirk Kent, Mike Colacino, Dan Henson, Fire Commissioner John Palermo, Mark
Lockwood, Dave Verstrate, Tyree Albright and Training
