Year-end celebration for WEP
By Mike Petrus, WEP coordinator
Ceremonies were held on June 5 at Newark High School, to honor
Work Experience Program participants.
The
Program is an exiting option for high school students to work
with a mentor in a career of their choice. This special program
is designed to provide students with a chance to explore their
future career goals; to be an extension of the classroom; to
reinforce what the student has been taught in the classroom; to
relate to the student that there is a direct correlation to what
they are learning in school to . . .
what
they need to be successful after they leave school; and to help
keep students in school so they graduate.
The program gives students the opportunity for many on-the-job
learning experiences, and to become familiar with good work
attitudes, responsibilities and specific career requirements.

Progam are just a few of the participants: Newark High Principal
Gary Grant with WEP mentor Rea Ann DePauw; Work Experience
Coordinator Mike Petrus with Sherry Williams, who administers the
employment training program; and Newark School Superintendent Bob
Christmann with student Christi Chaapel, who worked more than 600
hours with Dr. Fred Hicks, DMD, in his dental office.
