Year-end celebration for WEP

Ceremonies were held on June 5 at Newark High School, to honor Work Experience Program participants.

Sherry WilliamsThe Program is an exiting option for high school students to work with a mentor in a career of their choice. This special program is designed to provide students with a chance to explore their future career goals; to be an extension of the classroom; to reinforce what the student has been taught in the classroom; to relate to the student that there is a direct correlation to what they are learning in school to . . .
Christi Chaapelwhat they need to be successful after they leave school; and to help keep students in school so they graduate.

The program gives students the opportunity for many on-the-job learning experiences, and to become familiar with good work attitudes, responsibilities and specific career requirements.

WEP mentor Rea Ann DePauwPictured at last week's Work Experience Progam are just a few of the participants: Newark High Principal Gary Grant with WEP mentor Rea Ann DePauw; Work Experience Coordinator Mike Petrus with Sherry Williams, who administers the employment training program; and Newark School Superintendent Bob Christmann with student Christi Chaapel, who worked more than 600 hours with Dr. Fred Hicks, DMD, in his dental office.
