Concert about war & The Wall

Texan Michael J. Martin gave a free concert last Sunday at the Newark American Legion to promote the coming of the Moving Wall. The Michael J. Martinall-day rain moved the concert from the canal park into the Legion. Martin is pictured in concert, and with Don Miller of Newark. Miller, president of the Newark Veterans Council, is organizing the visit of the Wall, which will be in Newark from August 1-7. (Shirts like Miller is wearing will be sold at Newarkfest. Look for the booth.)

Martin had been visiting Waterloo and was most impressed with that town's Memorial Day celebration and parade. He commented that although Memorial and Veterans Days are downplayed in other parts of the country, he finds that New York state still displays patriotism as Norman Rockwell once portrayed it.

Don MillerThis singer/songwriter/guitar picker from Texas is a Vietnam veteran, who served 12 months in the jungle with the 11th Infantry/American Division.

Martin and his partner Tim Holiday founded the veterans advocacy group The Last Patrol. The patrol has logged thousands of miles marching on behalf of the POW/MIA issues since 1985, crossing 35 states. Holiday is currently in the VA hospital in Nashville, recovering from cancer.
