Reading/pumpkin winners at NMS
Prizes were awarded to students at Newark Middle School on October 31, for their participation in the School Library's Reading/Pumpkin Decorating Project. Students were required to read a book, write about a character in their book, then decorate a pumpkin as the book character.
1st prize, a $20 gift certificate donated by On Cue, was awarded to Megan Howell, 6th grade, David Walters, 7th grade, and Jimmy Russell, 8th grade.
2nd prize, two free movie passes donated by Showplace 5, went to Angela Tirado, 6th grade, Christine Santell, 7th grade, and Danielle Seavert, 8th grade.
3rd prize, a personal pan pizza donated by Pizza Hut, was awarded to Lisa Metris, 6th grade, Michael Ameele, 7th grade, and David Caraballo, 8th grade.
All 60 students participating in the contest were given free coupons donated by McDonald's.
Each project was judged on how well the character summaries were written and the creativity and orinally of the pumpkin decorated. Projects were judged by Jane Biddle, Kathy Camblin, Ann Crowley, and Nancy Briggs.
Coordination of this project was performed by Sandy Snyder, Middle School Librarian. Funding was sponsored by the Parents in Education Committee and Mr. William Hockey. Pumpkins were donated by the Bodine and EL-VI Farms of Newark.
