How the vote effects county government

Of Wayne County's 15 towns, few have changed the face of the county's Board of Supervisors. The biggest change was here in the Town of Arcadia, where Republicans gained the seat held since 1986 by Democrat Tom Healy. Supervisors carry a weighted vote that reflects their town's population. That being the case, Arcadia carries the largest vote at the county level.

Before Tuesday's election, the Wayne County Board of Supervisors had four seats occupied by Democrats. Now there will be three. Most of the GOP incumbents ran unopposed, and it was a non-election year for one supervisor - Galen's Louis DeLisio.

Ontario's Roy Herrmann (R) held his seat against two opponents; Frank Guelli (D,C,Cit) won the Walworth race, to take a post he left four years ago. A 10-year veteran, Guelli is back to take the seat most recently held by Peg Churchill, who did not run this term. And in Macedon, incumbent Democrat Art Ainsworth was upset by Republican Nelson Warner Jr.

Arcadia voters approved a four-year term for supervisor, which will take effect with the 1999 election. Marion defeated the same proposal. Only two other towns in the county - Galen and Walworth - currently elect supervisors for four years.
