Rotary/Apple Shed event will help many

The Newark Rotary Club fall fundraiser, a Haunted Hayride, was held at and co-sponsored by Gary Wells' Apple Shed in Fairville.

The Rotary proceeds are pledged to a service project partially sponsored by Rotary International: the purchase of an ambulance for a rural orthopedic hospital in India. The Newark funds were matched by the local club in India.

Anton, Gary Wells & zombieThe Rotary Haunted Hayride project enlisted the voluntary participation of several community groups over its nine-night run, including Girl Scout Troop 22, Boy Scout Troops 122 and 138, and Newark High School students, some of whom worked every night.

Newark Rotary President Beth Palmer attributed the success of the project to the creative and technical skills of Rotarian Anton Dotschkal, who created the frightening special effects, and to the enthusiastic support of everyone involved. The absence of rainy evenings was also a success factor. (Anton is pictured here with Gary Wells and a Flying Zombie.)

Newark Rotary is the local affiliate of Rotary International and is comprised of local business and professional men and women. The local club of 85 members conducts a weekly lunch meeting at Burnham's at the Quality Inn. Local business and professional people interested in more information on becoming Rotarians may call Ron Colacino at 331-2785.
