Thanks for Marion Display

private Noah's Ark collectionsThanks go to the following people for sharing items from their private Noah's Ark collections, recently displayed at the Marion Museum.

Delightful, cute and interesting things were loaned by Ruth Haskins, Diane VanLare, Pam Wolfanger, Barb DeWande, Kathy Cody, Jane Ballesty and Peter and Lois Admiraal.

In times past, children in strict Victorian and Puritan households were forbidden to play with toys on Sundays. Playing with toys was regarded as being loose, a violation, or even sinful. However, the parents thought that since the Noah story comes from the Bible, the Ark deserved special consideration. If the children were quiet and stayed in their room, then the Ark could be deemed a permissible Sunday amusement.
