Graybill gets variance for day care
By John Zornow

132 Harrison St., NewarkAt the November 10 Newark Zoning Board meeting, a use variance was approved to pave the way for a day care and pre-school center on Harrison Street.

Rodney Graybill, on behalf of "Home Away from Home Child Care and Pre-school," may now proceed with plans to conduct the day care operation at 132 Harrison St. This building previously housed the Newark Central School District offices.

Michelle Centrone and Michele DeSanto are the owners and operators of the day care center. The center will provide care for some 55 children from the ages of 6 weeks to 10 years. Nine staff members will be employed and the entire operation will be run in strict accordance with New York State rules and regulations.

Graybill, owner of the property, was required to show that the zoning of the area had caused unnecessary hardship. Graybill has repeatedly tried to rent the building in conformance with existing I-1 (Light Industrial) criteria. Having proven such hardship, the zoning board voted to grant the use variance to Graybill.

In other business:

Karen Mueller, on behalf of United Refining Company Kwik-Pik/Red Apple, at 204 West Union St., was denied permission for a special permit for additional signage at the West Union/Mason Street location.
