Pumpkin contest winners
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County was the site of a
Giant Pumpkin Contest on October 30. Large pumpkins appeared on the lawn of the Extension
office.
The largest pumpkin, grown by Elizabeth Weimer of 3333 Ressue Rd., Newark weighed in at 120 pounds, was 69 inches in circumference and 34 inches high. Elizabeth said she watered her pumpkin with milk to make it grow. She won a blue ribbon for the largest pumpkin.
The other blue ribbon winner was Adam Haupt of 5607 Middle Road, Williamson. His pumpkin weighed 100 pounds, was 68 inches in circumference and 36 and 1/2 inches high. This pumpkin was judged to be shaped most like a pumpkin.
The other winners were, 2nd place Emily Haupt with a pumpkin weighing 80 pounds, and 3rd place was Benjamin Haupt with a pumpkin weighing 68 pounds.

Judges for the event were farmers market vendors Eugene Robinson from Savannah and Adrian VanKouwenberg from Rose.
