O'Connell's Golden Anniversary
Geraldine R. Townsend of Newark and Bernard G. O'Connell of Newark were married on November 29, 1947 at St. Michael's Church by the Rev. Gerard Gefell. Thelma (O'Connell) Sheridan, sister of the groom, was maid of honor; George Townsend, brother of the bride, was best man. Ushers were Richard Wadsworth and Roland C. Hurlburt. The bride's parents hosted a reception at their home. The couple honeymooned in New York City, traveling by train. The couple has four children, Patricia (William) Fyles of Marion, Nancy (William) Altenburg of Syracuse, James (Barbara) O'Connell of Newark, and Michael (Kerry) O'Connell of Chelsea, NY; and seven grandchildren, Jessica Fyles of Washington, DC, Adam Fyles of Marion, Katie Altenburg of Syracuse, Ryan and Dan O'Connell of Newark, and Colleen and Brian O'Connell of Chelsea. A special Mass is being said at 5:15 p.m. at St. Michael's Church in Newark in their honor. Following the Mass, they and their children will celebrate with a dinner at Abigail's in Waterloo.
