NHS players honored at banquet

The Newark Reds Football banquet was recently held at Burnham's Canalside in Newark.
Gridiron Club president Mike Muscolino thanked Joe Monahan for his work through the years in organizing the football program.
The Most Desire Award was presented to Adam Quku. The Most Improved Player award went to Eric Decker, who had 24 catches this season. The Defensive Award was given to Brad DeVelder while the Special Teams award went to Eric Spratley. Aaron Quku won the Coaches Award. The Best Offensive player was Dwayne Parker. He rushed for 1883 yards, averaged more than 10 yards a carry and scored 26 touchdowns.
Amy Miller, the team trainer, who presented the Purple Heart award to sophomore Corey Stirpe. The Scholar Athlete award was given to Joe Monahan, for the third straight year. He finished the first quarter with a 94.3 academic average. Defensive line coach Scott Hurteau presented the Best Lineman award Josh Jinks.
The Most Desire award was presented to Nelson Rivera, the Scout Team award to Duane Garner, Coaches Awards were given to Dean Bailey and Jamie Harris. Senior Jason Vorie was presented with the Most Improved award. The Helmet Awards were given to Josh Jinks, Justin Biernbrauer, Jamie Harris, along with Tanner Webb.
Junior varsity and varsity cheerleading coaches Kim Fabrizio and Mary Ann Fenyn congratulated the varsity squad for a Scholastic Academic award. Varsity cheerleaders Meghan Shoemaker and Jo Anne Lester placed in the Bishop Kearney Senior Individual Tournament of Champions.
