The Newark High School tennis team played to a 3-3 tie with the Canandaigua Braves on September 26 at Newark.

Foreign exchange student Martine Derks (pictured) won at first singles for the Reds by the score of 6-4, 6-2. In second singles, Heidi Hellert lost a tough 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) decision. Third singles Kristin Warner lost 6-3, 6-2.

Fourth singles Heather DeMay won 6-4, 6-2, and in first doubles Emily Howard and Amber Norsen lost 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

Newark picked up the tie with a second doubles win by Kelly Michaud and Robin Chappell 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Martine DerksNewark played to a 3-3 tie with the Mynderse Academy Blue Devils on September 29. Derks won at first singles 6-1, 6-1. Heidi Hellert lost at second singles 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Kristin Warner won at third singles 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Jessica Moon dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision.

The first doubles team of Julie Martin and Miranda Clark lost a 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (8-6) decision. Newark's second doubles team of Kristin Roberts and Kelly Michaud won a 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision.

Newark is 4-6-2 overall and 3-5-2 in league play.
