Newark fire headquarters has face-lift

Newark Fire Chief Jim Colacino announced the completion of the outside renovation project at the Fire Department.

Since last June many aesthetic improvements have been performed by Volunteer Firefighters, Village DPW personnel, and local contractors.

renovation projectClingerman Painting Contractors and Fire Dept. personnel Doug Velte and Juan Ortiz caulked windows, painted trim, windows and the overhead door bollards. Under the supervision of DPW superintendent Jim Sadler, the front apron was resurfaced, and under the supervision of DPW Parks Foreman Terry Slocum, new landscaping was done around the perimeter of fire headquarters.

Local mason contractor Ed Fenyn donated his labor to install cottage block planters around two flagpoles, one incorporating a new memorial dedicated to the deceased members of the Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary. Flowers were donated by Newark Electric Corp. and planted by Marie Ignatowski, and Firefighters Shawn McCormick, Mike Colacino and Walt Lockwood.

Chief Colacino reports that he has received several compliments on the improvements.

The memorial flagpole was dedicated on October 4. The message:

This memorial is dedicated to the deceased members of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department and the Newark Ladies Auxiliary, for their unselfish devotion and sacrifice to their community and their love for the fire service.
